Stone Performing Arts Academy, Rooftop Studios, has been delivering online dance and performing arts classes in living rooms via Zoom for almost a month – and it’s been such a hit that the team is expanding its online offering, including birthday parties!
There’s a mixture of classes available, with hopefully something for everyone!
Classes for grown-ups…
Its’s not just kids who benefit from taking some ‘me’ time during downtime – engaging in activities like dance and singing can help adults look after their mental and physical health too. The studio’s adult ballet & jazz dancing, ‘Silver Swans’ ballet for over-55s, grown-up tap dancing and an adult version of the studio’s brilliant ‘Vocal Smash’ singing troupe are great for beginners or those returning to a pastime they once loved. All you need to join in is a device with a webcam and an internet connection – the first class is free and it’s PAYG from thereon.
Online birthday parties…
Celebrating children’s birthdays during lockdown can be difficult, so Rooftop is launching a new Online Disco Party Package aimed at making their day one they’ll remember. Studio Director, Laura Keeling explains:
“It’s really difficult for little ones to understand why they can’t see all their friends, especially on their birthday when they’ve probably had a party they were looking forward to cancelled. Zoom is a great way of catching up but online Zoom parties with lots of children can end up in a free-for-all with kids talking over each other as they’re desperate to catch up with their friends – so we’ve launched our online party package as a solution.
“We’ll basically take the pressure off you; setting up and hosting the meeting so you just need to send out invitations. You then get 30 minutes of fun led by one of our hosts and themed to your preference covering guided dancing to the latest fun hits and lots of games to keep all the children engaged. The ‘party room’ is open 15 minutes prior to this, allowing everyone to join and for 35 minutes after for the cutting of the cake and further interaction. All for just £35!”
West End Workshops
Now, more than ever, youngsters need something to look forward to on the horizon – so Rooftop is using its extensive network of industry contacts to line up events that will give budding performers exactly that – in the form of regular workshops led by West End stars. The first, taking place on Friday 1st May at 4pm will be led by Georgina Parkinson who, among her many credits, starred as Teen Fiona/Baby Bear in the UK/Ireland tour of Shrek the Musical. Aimed at 12-18 year olds with performing arts training, the workshop will see Georgina teach a routine from the show followed by a Q&A session. The cost is £4 for Rooftop members and £4.50 for non-members – to secure your space email claire@rooftopstudios.co.uk
Funday Fridays
During lockdown it’s easy to lose track of the days, but for families, it’s especially important to distinguish weekdays and home-schooling from the weekends. Rooftop’s new ‘Funday Friday’ sessions are designed to do exactly that – kick-starting the weekend with 30 minutes of fun for the whole family. Taking place from 4.30 – 5.00pm from Friday 8th May they will offer a heady mix of disco dancing, scavenger hunts, smelly sock fights, family quizzes – and, of course, a conga. Best of all, it’s just £3 per family to join in all the fun!
