Plans have been laid out by Staffordshire County Council as it looks to shape a stronger economy and a brighter future for residents and businesses.
The plans for response, impact and recovery are detailed in the Impact of COVID-19 on SCC Communities, Economy, and Organisation and Recovery Approaches report, and were agreed by the council’s Cabinet on Wednesday 17th June 2020.
Phillip Atkins, Leader of the Council, said: “Throughout this pandemic, the people of Staffordshire have united to help keep people safe, protect the vulnerable and support one another. While the shadow of Covid-19 will undoubtedly be felt for some time, it is the resilience and spirit of Staffordshire people which will help us bounce back from this crisis.
“It is great to see our primary and secondary schools now open to more pupils, more people back at work, more businesses reopening their doors and our town centres gradually welcoming back shoppers.
“However, as a county council we know that there still much hard work to be done in helping keeping our communities safe as lockdown restrictions are lifted further and also in helping this county not only recover from the impact of Covid-19 but also to shape a brighter future for both residents and businesses.”
As part of rebuilding the council , is focusing on the key areas of:

- Families and communities
- Economy and skills
- The digital agenda
- Climate change
Philip added: “We have shown as a county that we can pull together like never before and it is this sheer will and determination which will see us learn from the crisis, tackle the challenges that lie ahead and focus on a different way of life after Covid-19.”
