Have you got what it takes to be an on-call firefighter in Stone?

Firefighter RecruitmentStaffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is on the lookout for new crew members for its stations in Stone, Eccleshall, Gnosall and Rising Brook.

On-call firefighters typically provide cover from either their home or place of work and respond to the fire station on receipt of a pager call. Working alongside their full-time colleagues, they are regularly called upon to tackle a range of incidents, including fires, flooding, road traffic collisions and other emergencies. In addition to this, they also carry out important preventative work with local homes and businesses.

Group Manager James Green, who has responsibility for stations in the borough, said

“Between December 2022 and May 2023, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended 529 emergency incidents in the Stafford Borough area, which included 60 road traffic collisions and 32 accidental dwelling fires.

This essential service to the community would not be possible without on call firefighters and I would urge anyone who is interested in the role to come and find out more.”

On-call firefighters are paid employees and receive the same training as full-time colleagues. They attend the station for weekly training sessions and typically gain many new skills and qualifications as part of the role.

The role may be particularly suitable for those who have found themselves working from home on a permanent basis following the pandemic and are looking for the variety, teamwork and challenge that comes with the job.
