Stone Urban’s neighbourhood policing team, working with town centre businesses, is to launch a Store Watch scheme for the town.
Thankfully, incidents like the armed robbery at Thomson travel agents in July are rare in Stone. However, the Store Watch scheme will enable businesses and local officers to communicate effectively if, for instance, a known shoplifter is in the town. Many Store Watch schemes operate a radio link and this is a possibility for Stone, although the details are still being discussed.
PC Gareth Hilditch from the Stone Urban team said consultation would be carried out in the town soon.
The Stone Urban team is also installing 12 information boards around the town – in schools, shops, community centres and elsewhere – to keep the community regularly updated about its work.
