Students from Alleynes Academy were recognised last week at a ceremony in London for their achievements within the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
Alleynians (pictured – L-R) Hannah Barton, Anna West, Peter Nichols, James Curtis attended a Presentation of Awards by the Duke of Edinburgh at St James’s Palace on 19th March 2014.
They were presented along with Claire Dawson and Henry Jervis their Gold Award Certificates by special guest Benedict Cumberbatch also know as Sherlock Holmes in the recent TV series ‘Sherlock’. Graham Finlay, Group Leader for DOFE at Alleynes also went along to the presentation and said he felt “Very Proud”.
There are five sections to be completed for the Gold Award:
- Expedition (50 miles on Dartmoor)
- Residential (1 week working or learning with other young people away from home)
- Volunteering
- Skill
- Physical
With each section taking a minimum of one year to complete. The Gold level Duke of Edinburgh’s Award represents a significant achievement for these young people and they are to be congratulated.
