Alleyne’s High School in Stone became an academy at the start of the new school year.

The school in Oulton Road is now a publicly funded one independent of local authority control and is now known as Alleyne’s Academy. The move to academy status comes after the school achieved its best GCSE results ever, with 71% of students achieving five A*-C grades including English and Maths (86% of students achieved five A*-C grades).

Already judged to be a ‘good’ school by Ofsted in December 2011, and with 91% of students gaining a place at their first or reserve choice university for this September, headteacher Karen Lockett is confident of a bright and successful future for the academy.

She said: “Conversion to an academy will provide greater autonomy for the school, enabling it to build on its success and continue to raise standards. Greater freedoms, both within the curriculum and financially, will ensure a better deal for the students of Stone and the surrounding areas.”

The school is holding an open evening for new entrants in 2014 on Thursday 26th September from 6pm. Lots more information about the school on their website HERE
