Applications open for £2000 self-employed and small business grants

Working from home, contractor, freelance conceptStone self-employed and small businesses can now apply for grants of up to £2,000 if their business has suffered due to Covid-19.

The one-off payment will also be for sole traders and small limited companies who have not received previous funding grants.

For full details on the criteria and to apply, head over to the Stafford Borough Council – www.staffordbc.gov.uk/business-support-coronavirus

The latest grant pot has been earmarked for eligible businesses, such as driving instructors, sports therapists, photographers, and artists, who have lost more than 30 per cent of income since Covid-19 restrictions were put in place in March 2020.

Conditions of receiving the new grant also include having less than £50m turnover and fewer than 250 staff. The business would have to prove they had been trading at the time and were registered at either HM Revenues and Customs or Companies House.

Stafford Borough Council will make the payments later this month to those eligible.

During the pandemic, the Borough Council has distributed more than £35 million to local businesses that have had to close or have been significantly restricted by measures introduced to control the virus’s spread.

Karen Tierney, Head of Development at the Borough Council, said:

“We are keen to ensure all eligible businesses who have suffered because of the impact the virus restrictions have had on them receive this financial help.

“This latest round of funding gives support to those who have not received grants previously – including many of our self-employed and small businesses. I’d urge those businesses to get their applications in now.”

She added that as well as financial help, the council was also delivering other support for businesses and encouraged people to contact the council to find out more.
