Borough Local Plan to be examined in public

Stafford Borough Council’s Local Plan will be examined in public in October and November.

The ‘Local Plan for Stafford Borough’ was submitted to the Secretary of State in August. The independent planning inspector appointed to examine the Local Plan is Stephen Pratt.

He will conduct the examination to determine whether the Plan is sound and complies with all legal requirements. The criteria for soundness are whether the Plan’s policies are “positively prepared, justified, effective and consistent with national policy”.

The Local Plan is the vitally important set of documents that guide future development across the borough for the next couple of decades, including in Stone. It deals with land for housing, industry, leisure and recreation and others. It’s the document that includes Westbridge Park as a site for mixed-use development.

The examination sessions will be held across the borough from 23rd October until 1st November. No specific dates have yet been publicly announced. Lots more information HERE.

  • Lana, they use the area they are given!

What is the Food Festival trying to prove by erecting marquees on the long term and staff car park at Westbridge instead of putting the perimeter fences further back in the field.

  • I have heard that Stone Town policy, including the future of Westbridge Park, will be discussed on the 29th of October in the afternoon at Stafford Riverside offices.

Also that the public can attend but not participate. Hopefully there will be a good turn out of Stone residents to show the inspector that we care about the future of our park, because as you say, what is decided will determine the future of our town.

    • Hi Tim. Yes, I believe that date is correct but it hasn’t been made public by the borough council yet. You’re right, the session will be open to the public but only those who made official representations during the Local Plan’s many consultation periods will be able to address the session
