Council calls for views on leisure and recreation plan

Sports clubs and organisations in Stone and across the borough are being invited to help in plans for future leisure facilities across the area.

Letters and emails have been sent out by Stafford Borough Council to local clubs and organisations asking them to take part in a survey that will be used to form an action plan for sports and recreation needs. It follows an independent assessment which identified what the borough required to meet its expected growth in population.

The short survey asks organisations about their priorities for the future and if they want to play a part in creating new and improved facilities.

The borough council has already announced a £6 million scheme in Stone which will create a new leisure centre with swimming pool and improvements to football pitches. They announced recently that consultants were being brought in to bring that plan to fruition.

Two special meetings have also been arranged for later this month for people to come along to discuss the plans. The first is at Stafford Rangers FC on Tuesday 26th April at 7pm – and the same time the following day (Wednesday 27 April) in the school premises at Alleyne’s Academy in Stone. The Council say they want to hear from those involved in sport or, for example, people who have land that they would like to put forward for sport use.

And we will need those at the grassroots of sport and leisure across the borough – the people who know best about what is needed for their club, organisation, or sport – to help us do that.” [/box]

This is just another process that they have to go through before they just do what they want, despite our wishes. This isn’t a proper consultation based on needs, it’s the fulfilment of predetermined policy.
