A proposal for a new bus service linking Stone and Rugeley along the A51 is being considered as part of a county wide review of public transport services.

Councillor Brendan McKeown, Stafford Borough Councillor for Haywoods and Hixon, said he has been working on the idea for several months to improve connections between communities in the Trent Valley.
The proposed service would run between Stone and Rugeley, with stops planned at key destinations and villages along the A51 corridor.
These could include Aston Marina, Burston, Sandon, Weston, Amerton Farm, Stowe by Chartley, Hixon, Great Haywood, Little Haywood, Colwich, Wolseley Garden Centre, Rugeley Health Clinic, Rugeley Bus Station and Rugeley Trent Valley railway station.
Councillor McKeown said the proposal is about improving access to services, including doctors and pharmacy provision in Great Haywood, as well as helping residents reach places of interest and public transport connections.
He said
“It is not just about accessibility to the Doctors in Great Haywood; it’s about improving social mobility and access to places of interest for young and not so young.”
According to Councillor McKeown, Hazeldene House Surgery is supporting the proposal, along with parish councils along the A51 in the Trent Valley.
Staffordshire County Councillor Andrew Mynors and fellow Stafford Borough Councillor Andy Cooper are also backing the scheme.
The proposal is now being considered by Staffordshire County Council as part of its review of public transport services. Councillor McKeown said he expects the review to be completed in the summer.
If approved, the service would be introduced for a trial period so passenger numbers could be monitored before any longer term decision is made.
