Date set for Walton by-election

A by-election will take place next month following the death of Cllr Mike Carey.

Cllr Carey, who served the Walton ward, died in July aged 65.

The by-election will go ahead on Thursday 20th October for a seat on Stafford Borough Council. There will also be a parish election for a seat on Stone Town Council which was also held by Cllr Carey.

The notice of election will be published on Thursday 15th September. Anyone interested in standing in either of the elections should email elections@staffordbc.gov.uk or call 01785 619424. Nominations open on Thursday 15th September and close at noon on Friday 23rd September.

Mike Carey

Cllr Carey was co-opted on to Stone Town Council in 1974 and elected to the borough council in 1979, remaining on both until 1995, and was re-elected on to both in 2003. In 2006/7 he served as Deputy Mayor of Stafford Borough. At May’s borough council elections,  Conservative Cllr Carey polled the most votes out of any Stone candidate

At the time of his death he was serving as the Deputy Mayor of Stone, his fourth time in the role.
