It’s the Easter weekend, the clocks go forward at 1am on Sunday – spring is here! Here’s our pick of what’s going on in and around Stone from Good Friday to Easter Monday:
Charity duck race at The Star!
Head for The Star on Easter Monday for a race with a difference! Sponsor a duck for £2 to be in with the chance of winning cash prizes – but only if yours comes first or second after they’ve splashed along the Star lock! All proceeds go to two very good causes: Katharine House Hospice and the Midlands Air Ambulance. You can enter the race on the day or beforehand – just pop into The Star.

North Staffordshire Point to Point
It will be horses, not ducks, that will be doing the racing at the Sandon Hall estate on Saturday as it hosts the North Staffordshire Hunt Point-to-Point. It’s a highlight of the area’s social and sporting calendar with several thousand attending annually. Point-to-point racing is packed with thrills and spills as horses and riders tackle substantial fences at top speed over a challenging three-mile course. Gates open at 11am, with the first race at 1pm, and there’s lots going on for the whole family, including a funfair.

Live music
At The Royal Exchange in Radford Street, there’s live music on Saturday and Sunday night. Saturday sees Charlotte Lawton and The Mill from 9pm, while One Million Fingers will be playing their brilliant blend of rock and pop on the Sunday from 7.30pm
At The Swan, Dougie B plays live on Saturday night, and there’s a free buffet as always on Sunday from 12.30pm (but when it’s gone, it’s gone!)
There’s some great live music, too, at Granvilles. The Rock Dogs will be playing indie covers on Friday night, with soul and funk from Supersession (pictured above) on Saturday

An Easter procession will leave St Michael’s Church at 10am, moving up the High Street to Christ Church. At Christ Church from 10am, meanwhile, are Easter crafts for the little ones.
