Heating help at hand for benefit claimants

Residents in Stone are being urged to take advantage of a scheme which helps to heat their homes.

Despite the recent warm weather and impending summer, people are being encouraged to get applications in early for the new ‘Warm Front’ scheme, with grants of up to £6,000 available.

In the last 12 months more than £500,000 was given to local people who receive means-tested, or disability, benefits for help with heating and insulation measures.

Howard Thomas, the head of environment at Stafford Borough Council, said: “Being warm at home is very important to the health of older and disabled people, and young children.
