Overcoming Life’s Challenges
Kieron, a young man full of spirit, has faced numerous health obstacles in his 20 years of life. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and learning difficulties from an early age, a severe seizure and subsequent blood poisoning at eight years old led to brain complications, further limiting his mobility. Kieron has been unable to move or eat independently since then. Despite the challenges, Kieron leads a fulfilling life, largely thanks to his family and the support of AMG Nursing & Care Services, who have been providing care for over seven years.
Navigating Mobility Issues
Kieron relies on his wheelchair to explore the world, a task that was becoming increasingly difficult due to the chair’s weight. Recognising this challenge, Kieron’s mother contacted Donna Thorley, the Stone branch manager of AMG Nursing, seeking help with fundraising for a battery pack for the wheelchair. The battery pack would alleviate the weight problem and allow Kieron to continue experiencing the outside world, a liberty he cherishes due to his complex health needs.
The Power of Community
The Stone branch had already initiated fundraising efforts earlier this year. Demonstrating the power of community, all the staff donated Easter eggs, setting up a raffle that managed to raise an impressive £350. However, as the battery pack costs £600, additional fundraising was needed. The team rose to the occasion, creating the AMG lottery bonus ball, which brought in a further £290. Their combined efforts meant they had successfully raised enough for the battery pack.
Kieron’s mother has informed AMG that the life-changing battery pack is due to arrive next week. The team at AMG Nursing & Care Services, Stone, eagerly anticipate the pictures and feedback of Kieron embracing life, breathing in the summer air, with his newfound mobility.
