Inclusive travel campaign launched across Staffordshire

A new campaign aimed at making public transport more inclusive for disabled people has been launched across Staffordshire, including residents travelling in and around Stone.

The Celebrating Differences Inclusive Travel campaign has been developed with people who have lived experience of disabilities, sight loss and neurodivergence. It aims to help more residents feel confident using public transport by making everyday journeys simpler and more accessible.

The campaign highlights some of the barriers disabled people can face when travelling and promotes practical resources for passengers, drivers and transport operators across Staffordshire.

One of the resources now available is a set of Travel Assistance Cards, which passengers can show discreetly to bus drivers to ask for the support they need.

The cards may be useful for people travelling by bus in Stone and across the wider county, including passengers who need extra time to sit down or who need drivers to face them when speaking.

Martin Rogerson, Cabinet Member for Health and Care at Staffordshire County Council, said

“With such a simple idea, this scheme has the potential to transform people’s lives.

“Everyone should feel confident and comfortable when using public transport and the campaign and the new flash cards will help remove barriers that some residents face every day. What makes this project especially powerful is that it has been co-produced from start to finish by people with disabilities, ensuring it reflects their lived experience.

“I am very much looking forward to seeing this scheme put into practice and giving everyone the chance to go where they want and access any and all opportunities.”

The campaign will run until September 2026 and includes dedicated webpages with practical travel resources, information on the rights of disabled passengers, and training resources for drivers and transport staff.

The cards can be picked up from main libraries across Staffordshire or downloaded from the Staffordshire County Council website.
