A man from Meir Heath has been fined a total of £150 for dumping bags of rubbish on a country lane in Moddershall.
The man in his thirties was issued the penalty after dumping the rubbish on a country lane in the north of Stafford Borough.
Council officers found the illegally dumped refuse bags in Moddershall which contained books, paperwork and other domestic waste.
There were more than 350 reports of fly tipping in the borough in 2014. Over the last five years the cost to local tax payers of cleaning up incidents has been put at around £140,000.
Stafford Borough Council has a dedicated page www.staffordbc.gov.uk/grimewatch where they post pictures of rubbish dumped illegally and ask people for help in a bid to catch offenders.
Cabinet Member for Environment and Health, Councillor Frank Finlay, said: “Fly tipping is a blight on our area and those who enjoy the environment they live in do not want inconsiderate people treating the borough as a giant dustbin. I hope this sends out a clear message that if you do discard your rubbish illegally then you will be fined or prosecuted.”
