A man from Cheadle has been handed a £500 fixed penalty notice after a woman spotted him dumping rubbish on a country lane near Hilderstone.
The incident happened on Whitesytch Lane, where two hand saws and a vacuum cleaner were illegally dumped.
The woman saw the man driving away in a white van and provided information that helped Stafford Borough Council trace him.
The man subsequently admitted the offence and was issued with the £500 penalty.
Councillor Ian Fordham, Stafford Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, thanked the woman for coming forward and helping the authority identify the person responsible.
He said
“Fly-tipping is a blight on our communities – and as well as making an area untidy and potentially unsafe, it can cause environmental damage.
“We need the public’s help to trace those committing these environmental crimes and I am very grateful this lady came forward and provided details and evidence of this latest incident which has enabled us to track down the person responsible.”
The incident took place last month. During the summer, the council also issued more than £1,000 in fines for fly-tipping offences near Gnosall and on an industrial estate in Eccleshall.
Residents who witness fly-tipping or discover illegally dumped waste can report it through the council’s Grime Watch service .
