Cadet Company Sergeant Major Danny Shermer, from Stone, is putting his boots and bike to good use this summer, tackling a 500km walking and cycling challenge in just 30 days to raise money for ACCT UK, the Army Cadets Charitable Trust.

Danny, who has been part of the Staffordshire and West Midlands Army Cadet Force for more than four years, says the organisation has had a life-changing impact on him and he is determined to give something back.
“It’s done a lot of good for me,” he said. “I’ve developed communication skills, teamwork, discipline and respect, it’s had a massive effect on the person I am today.”
Supporting cadets across the UK
Danny’s challenge will raise money to support young people across the country through ACCT UK. The charity helps cadets access life-changing experiences by offering grants, kit support and funding, making sure that no young person is left out due to cost.
And Danny knows just how transformative those experiences can be. He has marched in London on Horse Guards Parade with the Grenadier Guards and performed in a military music spectacular, moments he says have shaped his outlook and confidence.
“Unless you’re in cadets, you just don’t get those kinds of opportunities,” he said. “If you’re thinking of joining, you absolutely should. It’s been incredible.”
For those interested, joining is easy. “Just head to armycadets.com, hit the ‘Join now’ button and find your nearest detachment,” Danny added.
Back Danny’s fundraising effort
Danny will be clocking up his 500km throughout July, splitting the distance between walking and cycling, and is asking people to support him if they can by donating online.
All funds raised will go directly to ACCT UK to support other young cadets just like him.
