Marvellous Award for Stafford Nurse

Nurse Vicky Baines from Stafford has been awarded the prestigious “You’re Marvellous” Award, for her work above & beyond the norm with heart failure patients.

Vicky, who is based at County Hospital, Stafford, but also works at University Hospital of North Midlands in Newcastle Under Lyme, was nominated for the award by ALBOS writer Lauren Walker, who was nursed at Vicky’s base the heart clinic, Shine, following a heart failure diagnosis in August this year.

Lauren says: “When I heard that Pumping Marvellous, the Heart Failure Charity, was asking for nominees for the award I immediately thought of Vicky. Every single person at Shine deserves an award, they are all superstars, and Vicky has that certain something that made visiting the clinic twice a week an absolute pleasure. She always has a ready smile, and during my time with Shine she was much more than a nurse, she was a confidante, a counsellor, an entertainer, and most of all, a friend. Vicky thoroughly deserves the recognition & I’m delighted she won.”

The Team at Shine work with patients who are acutely ill with all aspects of heart disease. The clinic prevents people with the newly-diagnosed condition needing to spend long and often inconvenient spells on the hospital’s beds. Its staff treats patients, and monitors their progress as day cases so they can return home at nights. The clinic was started in 2011 as a trial initiative and quickly proved it’s worth & became a permanent fixture.

Vicky commented: “It was a huge shock and I’m very honoured to get an award for a job that I love. But I have to say, it’s an achievement for the whole team I work with as they are an absolutely fabulous bunch of skilled and dedicated staff! And having fantastic patients makes the job even more enjoyable and rewarding”
