Four second-half goals saw Stone Old Alleynians secure a comfortable victory at Wolverhampton Utd last Saturday in their latest West Midlands League Division 1 match.
Playing up the slope in the first half, there was little to choose between the sides, with both having periods of domination. With a height advantage the quick tackling home defenders gave little away and in a mainly forgettable half the nearest Stone came to scoring were efforts from Adam Tomkinson, after collecting a return pass from Sam Wilson following a short corner, and a Nick Buckley shot from a Seydou pass. Neither shot troubled the goalkeeper.
Half Time:- Wolverhampton Utd 0 – Stone Old Alleynians 0
There was a dramatic start to the second half when after only a couple of minutes the referee awarded a controversial penalty, but unlike last week, this time in the Old Boys’ favour. Tomkinson put the Old Boys one up by sending the keeper the wrong way.
Danny Heard headed a Tomkinson free-kick just over and a good run by Danny Heard down the right set up a great chance for Buckley as the Old Boys started to dominate. In a rare United attack Adam Heath did well to turn Lee Coney’s well-struck shot over the bar, but Sam Hodgkinson, Chris Heard and Mike Davies at the back for the visitors were coping well with the Wolverhampton forwards.
At the midpoint of the half the Alleynians doubled their score. Danny Heard fed the tricky Sedou on the left for him to beat a couple of defenders before squaring the ball back to Tomkinson to rifle home his second. Number three soon followed with Danny Heard playing a one-two with Buckley for the latter to go on and lob the keeper.
It was role reversal for the fourth goal between Heard and Buckley with Heard chipping the ball over the goalkeeper this time. A great save by Heath on the final whistle prevented a consolation goal for the hosts.
Final Score:- Wolverhampton Utd 0 – Stone Old Alleynians 4
