Members of 1st Oulton Baden Powell Scouts have helped clear grass, soil and vegetation from around headstones at St Michael and St Wulfad’s Church in Stone.

Adults and children clearing vegetation from around headstones beside a brick wall in St Michael and St Wulfad’s churchyard in Stone.

A total of 23 leaders, young people and parents took part in the work, which involved uncovering headstones that had become partly hidden by grass, soil and moss.

The group also tackled ivy, bushes and branches around the area, using spades and other tools to clear sections of the churchyard and bring more of the headstones back into view.

1st Oulton Baden Powell Scouts thanked Paul Evans for organising the opportunity and inviting the group to get involved.

The Scouts said the session gave its younger members the chance to help with a practical project while learning about the importance of looking after local history.

The group said further opportunities to get involved in local projects have also been discussed.
