Shrewsbury Town 1 – Stone Dominoes Ladies 1
West Midland Regional Women’s League – Division One North, Sunday 4th October
Stone Dominoes LFC travelled to old foes Shrewsbury Town Ladies, who were promoted as runners-up last season in Stone’s championship-winning season, and came away with a point.
Stone took the lead after just 30 seconds when left-winger Lynda Bennion fired home, and they could have had a couple more in the first half as they dominated possession. As the half wore on, things began to even out, though, with chances for both teams.
After the break both teams stepped up a gear, with Shrewsbury hunting for an equaliser. A period of Shrewsbury pressure ended with a striker slotting the ball under Dominoes keeper Charlotte Perry to level things up. Stone remained strong and kept hitting Town on the break, Tammi Bennett working well down the right wing coming close to scoring. More last-minute chances came for both teams however the final score was 1-1.
Shrewsbury picked Dominoes defender Simone Kelsall for player of the match, which was truly deserved. Playing in the left back position Kelsall not only played well on the defensive part of the game, but also helped the attack when going forward.
