Police appeal after man injured while helping with fallen trailer load in Stone

Police are appealing for information after a trailer shed its load on to a road in Stone and a man who stopped to help suffered a broken foot.

The incident happened on Newcastle Road, near the junction of Crown Street and Newcastle Street, at around 8.15am on Saturday 25 April.

Staffordshire Police said

“A black Ford, with a pink sticker in the rear window, was towing an insecure large quantity of wood on Newcastle Road at around 8.15am on Saturday 25 April, when the vehicle shed its load.

“Approximately 30 wooden boards, measuring around 8ft by 4ft, were shed into the road at the junction of Crown Street and Newcastle Street.”

Police said a man stopped to help the driver and passenger move the boards.

“A man stopped to help the driver and passenger of the vehicle move the boards, but as the driver attempted to resecure the load into the trailer, a board was dropped on the man’s foot.

“The man, in his 40s, suffered a broken foot that will require surgery.”

Staffordshire Police said officers are keen to speak to the driver “in relation to inconsiderate and careless driving”.
