Staffordshire Police have issued a warning following a spate of bizarre clown sightings in the area.
In a new craze, originated in America, people are dressing up in clown costumes and then walking around towns, often late at night. There’s been nationwide reporting of incidents including people chasing children through parks and sinisterly peering through car windows.
Traditionally associated with laughter these incidents are anything but funny for the victims who have been reported to be terrified by the clowns’ behvaiour.
Staffordshire police said:
“We have a received a number of reports relating to this phenomenon, across the area, and we’re also aware of rumours that are circulating on social media.
While we appreciate Hallowe’en is just a short time away, scaring people – especially children and vulnerable people – in this way is completely unacceptable and could constitute an offence.”
