The site manager at Alleyne’s Academy in Stone is a real school star – he’s won an award in a competition that recognises the vital role played by support staff in schools.
Dave Buckley – the site manager at Alleyne’s Academy and the sports centre – has been unveiled as the first winner of Staffordshire Unison’s ‘Stars in our schools’ competition.

He will tackle any job from litter picking to presenting at a governors’ meeting. Everyone in school likes him as he is constantly jolly but also the utmost professional. Over the summer holidays we had a large project for new windows going on and he didn’t take a foreign holiday so that he could ensure his availability should a problem arise and he be needed.
“He is passionate about the success of our school and is often the first to arrive in a morning and the last to leave at night. Dave is one of those members of staff that every organisation would like to have.”[/box]
Unison asked headteachers across the county to nominate support staff for the award – and Dave, who has worked at the school for the last 14 years, came out on top. He won a weekend away to Croyde Bay and the school received £300 to be used for the benefit of the students.
Big congratulations to Dave!
