School recognised in Green Awards

Pirehill First School has been commended in Stafford Borough Council’s Green Awards for its environmental work with pupils.

The awards recognise the work undertaken by local organisations – such as schools and businesses – in creating a more sustainable and healthy community.

The school – in Tilling Drive, Walton – was commended for its efforts to recycle and its outdoor wildlife area and community allotment. Headteacher Debbie Breeze said: “Recycling and looking after the environment are important lessons for children and we’ve been working really hard on a number of projects. We were delighted to be commended.”

The overall winner this year was Rising Brook Baptist Church in Stafford.
