Second public meeting on A34 gap closure

Another public meeting is being held on the county council’s decision to close the gap on the A34 between the new fire station and Whitemill Lane.

The second meeting will be held on Wednesday 18th March at Walton Community Centre (Presidents Hall) at 8.30pm. It follows a meeting that was held on Friday night.

Independent town and borough councillor Jill Hood said: “This is short notice we know but we have to act quickly to make our objections heard and to stop the closure by putting forward more sensible options which will not endanger life. Closure will also effect the Eccleshall Road too and could have a detrimental effect on businesses. All councillors have been invited and a representative of County Highways. The two County Councillors will receive their invitation today and Sir Bill Cash MP has also been invited.”

Objectors say closing the gap will lead to a huge amount of extra traffic going through the flat-roof estate in Walton and out on to an already busy Eccleshall Road.

The proposed closure will alleviate one risk area, but is inviting problems by forcing traffic to turn left onto the A34 which will then make even more hazardous u-turns at the next two openings. Not a properly considered solution.
