The team behind successful Staffordshire wool fest, Wool@J13, have organised two further sock-themed sessions for October following the sell-out success of a sock knitting masterclass it hosted back in June.
Experienced tutor Becci Pamely-Bast of Riverknits will return to Lower Drayton Farm for the first session, on Saturday 6th October, to share the skills it takes to create a hand knitted pair of socks. Participants will learn to tackle the majority of sock knitting patterns – toe-up or cuff-down – and, by the end of the day, will be experts with their own pair of Wee Rowdy Socks to take away as a perfect example of both techniques.
Julie Beardwell from Wool Zone will lead the next workshop, on Sunday 14th October, and will focus on ‘two at a time’ sock knitting using a circular needle. Julie, drawing on her vast experience to guide students through the process of creating a pair of baby socks to take home and use as reference for future sock knitting projects.
Co-organiser of Wool @ J13, Staffordshire-based wool artist Ingrid Wagner, says:
“We had a phenomenal response to our first non-festival workshop in the summer – so much so that we had a waiting list of people queuing up for another sock knitting masterclass. We obliged by organising these two sessions, each focussed on a different method of knitting socks, and now just a few spaces remain. The timing couldn’t be better for those looking to give handmade gifts at Christmas this year – there’s nothing quite as cosy or luxurious as a pair of socks hand knitted in wool, so once you’ve honed your skills on this workshop you can start creating beautiful personalised gifts for whomever you wish!”
The workshops run from 0930-1700 and costs £70.00 per student, inclusive of materials, lunch and refreshments. Those travelling from further afield also have the opportunity a room at the cosy farmhouse B&B on site either the night before or night of the workshop.
