Sponsored water carry for Water Aid

Keep an eye out when you’re out and about this Sunday morning (May 3rd) for the unusual sight of dozens of youngsters carrying buckets of water along the canal towpath!

There is a logical explanation – the youngsters are taking part in a sponsored water carry, the brainchild of Rotary in Stone, in support of Water Aid. The charity works with the poorest and most marginalised communities in the world to set up practical and sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene projects to meet their local needs.

John Lockley, the event organiser, said the youngsters taking part in the fundraising task would be asked to carry water from Westbridge Park to the Whitebridge Estate, covering a distance of about a mile, to bring home to them the problems that children face in the developing world in getting water to their homes and schools.

Alleyne’s Academy, Walton Priory Middle School and Pirehill First School will all be taking part in the water carry and the pupils are being sponsored by friends and family to raise cash for the charity.
