The deadline to apply for up to £25,000 is only two weeks away with grants of up to £25,000 available for businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors with rateable values between £15,000 and £51,000.  £10,000 is going to those entitled to Small Business Rate Relief.

The council is making last gasp efforts to contact firms this week to tell them how to apply for the money before the Friday 21st August cut-off date. More information and how to apply from www.staffordbc.gov.uk/business-support-coronavirus. The council has also urged businesses who are eligible to fill in their forms accurately to ensure grants are paid directly into their accounts.

Councillor Mike Smith, Cabinet Member for Resources, said they had gone above and beyond – including staff working through their weekends – to make sure the money was distributed.

“I would hate to think that a business in our area that has struggled financially because of this terrible pandemic will miss out on a vital cash injection to keep them going and protect their staff.

“Every eligible business who has applied has received a grant. We urge those who have not yet applied, or have not given us the correct information, to do so before time runs out and we have to return the money to central Government under the rules of the scheme.

“And we would much rather see all £3.2 million in the bank accounts of our borough businesses than going back into Government coffers.”
