Stone canoe club to host junior taster day later this month

Stafford & Stone Canoe Club is inviting young people to give canoe slalom a try at a junior taster session later this month.

Stafford and Stone Canoe Club is holding its 2026 Junior Taster Day on Sunday 26 April, with the session aimed at youngsters who want to try something different on the water.

The club says the session will cost £10 and will include full use of club equipment, along with coached time in what it describes as a safe, low pressure setting. Organisers are hoping it will give children a chance to try canoe slalom for the first time, while also having some fun along the way.

Canoe slalom has a strong connection to the Stone area, with local interest in the sport boosted in recent years by the success of paddlers including Olympians Joe Clarke and Adam Burgess.

The club said it would love to inspire the next generation of young paddlers through the taster sessions.

For families in Stone and the wider area, it could be a chance to see whether canoe slalom is something their child enjoys without a big upfront cost.

The session is part of the club’s annual push to bring new juniors into the sport, and comes as canoe slalom continues to hold a high profile locally.
