Southport Shoreline Ladies 0 – Stone Dominoes LFC 4: Stone Dominoes Ladies travelled to Liverpool for their fourth pre-season friendly against Lancashire County League side Southport Shoreline Ladies FC and put in another quality performance.
Playing in thirds again, Stone were able to change the formation each third and looked at playing players in different positions in preparation for their FA Cup game on 6th September.
Starting with a 4-3-3 formation the Dominoes pressed from the front and played some quality football, giving chances on goal for Nat Price and Mollie Prime. The first goal came from a quality Kerry McCourt corner where an unmarked Lauren Ward was able to direct her header into the back of the net.
The second third saw a 4-4-2 formation which also proved hard for the Shoreline defence. The girls played some great football keeping it simple and playing around the Shoreline players much to their frustration. Striker Jules Kendrick linked up well with the midfield giving shooting opportunities for Amy Thompson and Siobhan Haynes but nothing troubled the keeper too much.
After some great link-up play in defence, a ball came to Mollie Prime to run on to, with the Shoreline keeper off her line, Prime calmly tapped the ball over the keepers head and into the back of the net. Soon after Hayley Mason came up for a corner and headed but only for the keeper to parry back into the penalty area, Mason reacted quickly and took advantage of the slow Shoreline defence taking the Dominoes third goal after a goalmouth scramble.
The last third saw the Dominoes play 3-5-2 formation, Mollie Prime scored her second of the game and Stones fourth after beating two defenders on the left wing then placing the ball in the left hand corner. After this, Shoreline didn’t do too much to trouble the solid Stone defence and with the possession going mostly Stone’s way it gave plenty of opportunities for the central defenders to get on the ball and make the attackers chase the ball.
Another quality performance.
Stone have been drawn at home in the Women’s FA Cup first round against West Midland Regional League South’s Malvern Town Ladies, 2pm kick-off. Entry is free and the club is inviting as many supporters along as possible.
