It was another gloriously sunny evening for Stone Festival’s Steeplechase and Dog Derby, which saw 69 runners and 39 dogs and their owners taking part, with even more spectators supporting their friends and families.
The runners from both races were under the Town Mayor Jill Piggott’s starter’s orders on Monday night, who also congratulated them at the finish line.
The participants were put into categories and ran a circuit that started from the football pitches on Westbridge Park, down the canal and across the Crown Meadow and a splash through the River Trent before completing a final sprint back to the start line. The results were as follows:
Steeplechase:
Under 16 Boy: James Russell
Adult Male: River Hand
Veteran Male: Chris Barlow
Under 16 Girl: Elisha Walker
Adult Female: Marge Shermer
Vertan Female: Katy Warren
Dog Derby:
Under 16 Girl: Grace Woodhead with Alfie
Adult Female: Jenny Franklin with Ralph
Under 16 Boy: James Russell with Eric
Adult Male: Tom Wilson with Buzz
The event was a joint effort between the Stone Master Marathoners (who set out the course and provided marshals) and Stone’s Inner Wheel Club.
