Stone Hockey and Rugby Club appeals for donations to finish new clubhouse

Stone Hockey and Rugby Club (SHARC) is appealing for help from the local community to complete its new clubhouse at Enson Lane, with funding needed to finish the building’s interior.

Stone Rugby Club House

The new clubhouse has been constructed, but a fundraising appeal shared with A Little Bit of Stone says there is still considerable work to be done inside, and the money available for the project has run out.

The facility is being developed as a shared home for Stone’s hockey and rugby clubs, providing improved changing rooms and indoor facilities for players of all ages.

The club also hopes the completed building will benefit people beyond its own members, with the potential to accommodate other sports, including football, as well as community activities and events.

A project years in the making

The new clubhouse has been a longstanding ambition for Stone’s hockey and rugby communities.

In January 2024, A Little Bit of Stone reported that Stafford Borough Council had approved a £400,000 allocation towards the new facilities.

The funding came through a planning agreement linked to the redevelopment of Stone Rugby Club’s former ground at Tilling Drive, following the club’s move to join Stone Hockey Club at Enson Lane.

Further fundraising has continued alongside the development, but the latest appeal makes clear that additional financial support is still required before the clubhouse can be completed.

Community asked to help finish the job

The appeal encourages Stone residents to make a donation, however small, towards completing the work.

Those behind the appeal believe the finished clubhouse could provide a meeting place for local families, sports teams and community groups.

The message shared with ALBOS says

“Every single donation, no matter how small, genuinely helps move us closer to the finish line.”

Residents who would like to contribute can donate through SHARC’s Crowdfunder page. Those unable to donate are being encouraged to share the appeal with others.
