Stone resident Coriarna Morris has been shortlisted as a finalist in the BBC Radio Stoke Make A Difference Active Award for her work with Blaze Trails, a group that helps families explore the outdoors together.

Coriarna has played a leading role in bringing Blaze Trails to Staffordshire, creating opportunities for families to get active in parks, woods, hills and National Trust sites across the county. The group is entirely volunteer-led and welcomes parents, carers and children of all ages, from babies in carriers to adventurous toddlers.
Walking, talking and wellbeing
Blaze Trails has become well known for its family-friendly walks, whether it is a gentle stroll with pushchairs or a climb in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The emphasis is on connection as much as activity.
“Our aim is to give little ones their first outdoor experiences, support parents and carers in getting active, and help everyone enjoy the mental health benefits of being outside,” Coriarna explained.
Events are often free and open to all. Organisers work hard to make them inclusive, so that nobody feels they need specialist equipment or experience to take part.
Building a community outdoors
The network has grown steadily, with walks now taking place across Staffordshire and into the Peak District. From the seven summits challenge in the Peaks to a coffee-and-chat walk in town, there is something to suit different levels of confidence and ability.

“Getting outdoors together makes such a difference—not just physically, but for mental wellbeing too,” said Coriarna. “We love seeing more families, more active mums and dads, and more carers joining our walks, exploring new places, and sharing experiences with their little ones.”
Her own one-year-old son Nico has already taken part in many outings, showing that outdoor adventures really can start from the very beginning.
Recognition for local impact
The Make A Difference Awards celebrate people who go the extra mile for their communities. Coriarna’s shortlisting recognises the time and passion she has put into inspiring families to spend more time in nature.
She will discover whether she has won the award at a ceremony at the Bet365 Stadium in September.
Whatever the outcome, reaching the finals shines a spotlight on the difference volunteers like Coriarna and her fellow organisers make in helping families to connect, stay active and enjoy the natural beauty of the local area.
