Stone’s Common Plot brings residents together for solar eclipse

People gathered on the Common Plot on Wednesday evening to watch one of the most significant solar eclipses visible from the UK in decades.

Local photographer Ian Knight spent a couple of hours on the Common watching and photographing the partial eclipse on Wednesday 12 August, as the Moon passed across the face of the Sun.

Ian said

“There was a lovely community atmosphere with everyone sharing stories throughout and sharing methods of seeing the eclipse.”

The eclipse was visible across the UK, with around 90 to 96 per cent of the Sun obscured depending on location. In the Stone area, maximum eclipse came shortly after 7.10pm.
