Forecasts of high winds, caused by Storm Darragh, have led to the cancellation of Stone Farmers’ Market and Stone Town Council market on Saturday 7th December.
Writing on Facebook, SBC Farmers’ Markets wrote:
“Stone Farmers’ Market and Stone Town Council markets are cancelled on Saturday 7th December due to predicted high winds. We have not taken this decision lightly but safety must come first.
If you have ordered items from one of our traders, please contact them directly.
Stone Country Market will be at the Crown Hotel so that their customers can collect their orders.
If you have any further queries, please email market@staffordbc.gov.uk”
Hot on the heels of the news, the Stone Sunday Series Facebook page confirmed that their market is going ahead, although they will continue to monitor the weather:
“Sunday 8th December Christmas Market to go ahead!
Although the weather for Saturday is not looking good, the yellow weather warning is being lifted at 6am on Sunday and the day’s forecast looks much better – so we are planning to go ahead and spread festive cheer in the High Street.
Naturally this will be under constant monitoring and if we feel there is a health and safety risk we will take the decision to cancel.
Keeping everything crossed that the forecast remains as it stands!”
The news will come as a blow to High Street retailers who rely on the additional footfall that the markets bring to the town.
Residents and visitors are still encouraged to take advantage of the free parking in Stone on Saturday and visit the brick and mortar shops, cafe’s and bars in the town.
