Knights will take over Stone once more as the town celebrates Saint George’s Day with a free, family-friendly event on Saturday 26th April 2025.
Stone Town Council is bringing a taste of medieval history to the High Street with a lively afternoon of parades, battles and brilliant costumes, and all are welcome to join in the fun.
Parade, pageantry and a heroic showdown
Kicking off at 12:30 pm, a special parade led by Saint George himself will march down the High Street to Stone’s Market Square. Local children are invited to be part of the parade, just head to the back of the Town Council building on Station Road at 12:20 pm to join the line-up.
Once the parade reaches the square, the Black Knight will challenge Saint George and his men to a full-on clash in front of the gathered crowd. Expect swordplay, cheers, and plenty of theatrical energy as the knights go head-to-head.
Fancy dress, medieval weapons and more
The celebration continues with a chance for young visitors to chat with the knights and get a closer look at the weapons they use. There’ll also be a children’s fancy dress competition on the theme of knights and damsels, with a £25 gift voucher up for grabs for the best outfit.
And don’t forget the town’s shops, eateries and regular market, will be open for those who fancy a browse, shop or a bite to eat in between the medieval action.
Honouring England’s legendary patron
Saint George’s Day falls on 23rd April each year, commemorating the country’s patron saint – a figure associated with bravery and chivalry. While the famous dragon-slaying tale might be more legend than fact, it’s helped make Saint George one of the most recognised symbols of English heritage.
Stone’s celebrations have become a local favourite, drawing big crowds year after year. With something for all ages and no ticket required, it’s a brilliant way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the town.
