Time ticking away to nominate local heroes

Local heroes could be up for an award in Stafford Borough, and there’s still for you to nominate someone.

Now in their third year, The Community Awards rewards the efforts of local people, businesses schools and other groups that help to improve community wellbeing.

Nominations for the 2019 awards close in a month’s time with residents being urged to put forward those who are doing good work to improve life in the borough. The categories are:

Last year the initiative attracted more than 50 entries. They are open to all people, groups and organisations operating within the borough with projects that have been running during the last 12 months. The 2018 winners included Penkside Community Champions for a range of local initiatives and Burton Manor Primary School for their eco-friendly work

Councillor Jeremy Pert, Cabinet Member for Communities and Health, said: “This is a great way to say thank you to those who go that extra mile to make Stafford Borough a better place to live, work and visit.

“It was a tremendous event last year and I was honoured to be among so many inspirational people and hear about all the selfless work they were doing for the benefit of others.

“The work they do often goes unnoticed, so these awards give us the opportunity to pay tribute to them and demonstrate that we value all that they do.”

The closing date for nominations and applications is Monday 30 September. The awards ceremony will be held in November. To find out more, and to download the application form, visit https://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/communityawards
