Alleynes Academy sent this statement tonight: “Alleyne’s Academy has suffered a tragic loss of a much loved and dedicated teacher, Mr Chris Burchell, who died on 8th December. Mr Burchell had taught at Alleyne’s for over 10 years and was extremely popular with students, staff and parents. During this time he had been involved in all aspects of school life, both within and outside the classroom, including running the annual ski trip, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, the rugby team and many more. Staff and students are extremely saddened by their loss and are grateful for all the kind messages of support received. Thoughts are with his family, friends, students and colleagues.”

Headteacher Karen Lockett had posted a message on the schools’s website earlier. She said: “Mr Burchell was a valued and most generous and caring member of staff, who dedicated huge amounts of time and energy both in and outside of school. He will be greatly missed by staff and students alike.”

Dozens of current and former pupils, as well as parents, have been leaving comments on the Little Bit of Stone Facebook page all day. You can see all of them in the embedded Facebook post below. It’s pretty obvious that Chris was an amazing teacher who really touched the lives of his students. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends, students and colleagues at Alleyne’s Academy.
