Why Puddle Ducks hold termly Pyjama Week lessons in Stone

Puddle Ducks’ swimmers take part in termly pyjama week lessons, which are lots of fun whilst also being very important. They allow the swimmers (and grown ups) to experience what it feels like to swim when clothed; helping them to learn vital techniques should they accidentally fall into water.

All of our classes have a water safety element to them each week and our termly Pyjama Week lessons allow the swimmers to have a regular session to understand how to swim when fully clothed following a fall or accidental submersion into water. It helps them to realise they can still swim, practice their turning and other personal survival and water safety skills, which will ultimately help keep them safe. In our Swim Academy classes for 4 years and up, we also teach the swimmers rescue skills, so they can assist others who may fall into water using techniques involving shout and signalling and other forms of non contact rescues, so they keep themselves safe whilst assisting others.

Our Autumn Pyjama Week lessons also raise money and vital donations for our charity partner; Children’s Hospital Pyjamas. Last year our swimmers raised an amazing £1,745 and donated 80 pairs of pyjamas to this wonderful cause! In the Summer term, our Pyjama Week runs alongside the STA’s International Learn to Swim Week, highlighting the importance of water safety, learning to swim and the skills it helps develop.
