Runners in the first Flying Fox marathon back in 1979

Stone Master Marathoners are holding their first Flying Fox marathon since 1994 this weekend.

Stone’s running club was founded in 1977 and the Flying Fox was chosen as the club’s first emblem. The first Flying Fox Marathon was held in October 1979 at Kidsgrove. It moved to Sandbach in its second year before moving to Stone, where it continued until the last running of the marathon in 1994.
