Right here in Stone, a brand new state-of-the-art automated pharmacy will package medication in an easy-to-use format that is designed around you. The pouch as pictured below contains all the tablets you need at a given time so you know what you need to take and when – all you have to do is tear the pouch and take your medication, it’s as simple as that.
The pouches come on a roll in the order that you take your medication, so everything is very simple and you get exactly what you have been prescribed by the doctor at the correct time.
All the medications are put together using your prescription, either in paper format or the new electronic prescription from your current doctor. This is fed into the automated machines, which create the pouches.
Medscene also have a machine that photographs each and every pouch and checks to ensure that the medication is exactly what you need. This is the only machine of its kind in the UK.
Margaret Clarke already uses the pouches and she has found them really helpful when having to take her medication. She said: “I can see straight away when I need to take my medication and I only have to check one place, it is so simple and makes life easier for me. If I go out for the day, I can just take the pouches I need for that day and so I don’t take all the pill boxes I used to have to carry around.”
