Free NHS heart age checks coming to Stone Carnival

People aged 40 to 74 in Stone and across Staffordshire are being encouraged to book a free NHS Health Check and find out their “heart age”.

Martin Rogerson and an Everyone Health Staffordshire representative hold heart age signs beside an NHS Health Check banner.

The checks, delivered by Everyone Health Staffordshire, are designed to help spot early signs of conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and high blood pressure.

A mobile NHS Health Check service will be at Stone Carnival, Westbridge Park, 44 Stafford Road, Stone, ST15 0EX, on Saturday 6 June from 9am to 5pm.

The appointment takes around 20 to 30 minutes and includes simple checks such as blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, waist measurement, cholesterol levels and type 2 diabetes risk.

At the end of the session, people receive a personalised heart age card showing whether their heart is older, younger or the same as their actual age.

To be eligible, residents must be aged 40 to 74, live in Staffordshire, not have had an NHS Health Check in the last five years, and not already have certain long term conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, stroke, diagnosed high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

Martin Rogerson, Cabinet Member for Health and Care at Staffordshire County Council, said

“The idea of ‘heart age’ is a powerful one and it really brings home how healthy your heart is in a way that’s easy to understand. I know from my own experience, having had a heart attack when I was 47 years old, just how important that is.

“I would particularly encourage men to come forward, as we know they are often less likely to get checked, even when they feel well. These conditions can develop without symptoms, so this quick check could make a life-saving difference.

“It’s also something couples can do together, so why not come along as a pair, support each other and take a simple step towards staying healthy for longer.”

Zoe Williams, Deputy Service Manager from Everyone Health Staffordshire, said

“We often see people who feel completely well, but their results tell a different story. That’s why these checks are so important. They can pick up problems early when something can still be done about it.

“The ‘heart age’ result really helps people understand their health in a simple way, and it often gives them that extra motivation to make small changes that can have a big impact over time. Our team is here to make the process friendly, reassuring, and easy from start to finish.”

Residents can book by texting HEART to 60777 to request a call back, calling 0333 005 0095, or through the Everyone Health Staffordshire website.

Regular clinics are also available across Staffordshire each month.
