Stone hosts World War One memorabilia exhibition

Frank JordanStone Town Council has organised an exhibition of World War One memorabilia at the Frank Jordan Centre from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday 10th November 2018.

Local historian Steve Edwards will be exhibiting part of his collection of WW1 Stone memorabilia giving you the opportunity to see what life was like during the so-called Great War. The first men from Stone to be called up left the town in 1914 many never returned, killed in active service. You will recognise some familiar Stone surnames which could be distant relatives of yours. Steve Edwards has been collecting WW1 memorabilia since he was four years old.

The exhibition is well worth a visit to view the medals and military honours awarded to the brave Stone men who fought for their country. Steve brings alive the memories of outstanding acts of bravery and is happy to talk to you about his collection and life in Stone for those families who were left behind and how they carried on supporting the war effort and the men of our town who survived and were also awarded military honours.

Councillor Jill Hood, Chairman of the Council’s Tourism and Town Promotion Sub-Committee, said

“We are very grateful to Steve Edwards for agreeing to exhibit some of his extensive collection of World War One memorabilia. This exhibition will help to bring alive this important period in our history about which we have heard so much, but can be so hard to envision.”
