Alleynes Young Enterprise team wraps up to help the envronment

A group of Sixth Form students from Stone’s Alleynes Academy have developed an environment-saving product as part of the Young Enterprise scheme.

EcoWrap is a new way to wrap your gifts in the form of a reusable fabric gift wrap. The ambitious Year 12 students are balancing their desire to give back to the environment with a passion to create a successful business model.

The students are using this opportunity to not just create an innovative product, but also to do their part in protecting the environment. By doing this, the 20 aspiring business men and women are learning key skills and lessons whilst gaining a clear understanding of the modern business world. In order to do this, the team have had to go through each process; designing, marketing and production of the final product.

Studies show that an estimated 18.7 million acres of forest are being lost due to deforestation each year, and because of this, they feel it is time to make a change in order to create a more sustainable future. Not only helping to save the forests and protect the world from further pollution, EcoWrap aims to save you time as well. Instead of spending hours wrapping, they encourage you to enjoy your time with those around you, so their simple design allows you to wrap your presents efficiently and with ease.

The group have decided to incorporate water based inks, whilst still providing the best possible quality and aim in the future to offer range of patterns to cater to all, following the theme of being environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Using their unique technology in the form of QR codes, if the previous receiver has logged onto the product  website, you are able to track your gift and how many times it has been used. As well as this, discover its past locations and its future journeys, connecting you with everyone else who has received the gift of EcoWrap. By simply scanning your individual QR code it will take to an exclusive page where there will be a celebratory message depending on the occasion. The receiver can then chose to add both their name and location, meaning that when the wrap is re-gifted the next person they can also follow its previous locations and also add their details. This process can be repeated continually, adding to the originality of the product and making it fun for customers.
