Details of the Stone virtual Christmas lights switch on 2020

Christmas LightsStone Christmas light online virtual switch on this Thursday, 19th November – video premiering on ALBOS Facebook page at 6:50pm.

Stone Town Council’s Christmas lights switch-on is a major event for the town and one that the council didn’t want to pass by without a celebration.

The council have teamed up with two students from Staffordshire University and A Little Bit of Stone to bring an on-line lights switch-on event for all to enjoy from the safety and comfort of their own homes.

The two students, Olivia Bethell and Amber Mottershead of Staffordshire University who are now alumni,
have been studying for their digital marketing masters degree. Olivia and Amber described the light
switch on as ‘the happiest night of the year’ for Stone and didn’t want the occasion to go unmarked
as they felt the Christmas Lights Switch-on was the Kick Start for the Stone Christmas season.

Olivia and Amber approached the Council with the offer to put together a short video to mark the
switching on of the lights. This video will be hosted by A Little Bit of Stone and broadcast by them at
6:50pm on Thursday 19th November. It will include children’s Christmas wishes and show Santa and Dolly Daydream switching on the lights at 7:00pm.

Please note that there will be no actual switch-on event in the High Street itself, and residents are
asked to watch the video safely in the comfort of their own homes.

Stone Tourism and Town Promotion Chairman Councillor Jill Hood said

“I’m looking forward to the video and watching the lights switch-on. It would have been a sad time if we couldn’t have celebrated our Christmas Lights and I think it’s great that we will keep a sense of normality with
what the students have done for the town.”
