Stone Town Council have released details of this year’s Armistice Service, annual parade and Service of Remembrance.
On Friday, the 11th of November, Stone Town Council will be supporting the Royal British Legion National initiative in observing a two-minute silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
A short ceremony will be held at the War Memorial in Granville Square at 11.00am, traffic will be halted, and a bugler will sound the Last Post and Reveille.
Members of the public are invited to join Town Councillors and members of ex-Service Organisations in remembering those who gave their lives for us.
On Sunday, the 13th of November, the Annual Parade, Services of Remembrance at the War Memorial in Granville Square and later at the Parish Church of St. Michael and St. Wulfad, will take place.
The arrangements for Remembrance Sunday are as follows: –
- 10.15 a.m. Parade Personnel to assemble at the bottom of the High Street.
- 10.35 a.m. Parade to proceed along High Street to the War Memorial.
- 10.45 a.m. Presentation of Wreaths in accordance with an Order of Presentation. Persons laying wreaths (including any not on the Order of Presentation) should kindly report to Mr I. Prescott, the Parade Marshal, during the assembly in the High Street, to be briefed on the wreath-laying ceremony.
- 11.00 a.m. Two Minutes Silence and Service of Remembrance.
All those laying wreaths will be asked to walk together in the parade or asked to assemble together prior to the parade reaching the top of the High Street and asked to stand near the War Memorial in order to streamline the laying of the wreaths.
At the conclusion of the Service at the War Memorial, the Parade will proceed to the Parish Church of St. Michael and St. Wulfad via High Street and Church Street led by Stone Scout & Guide Band, where the Colour and Standard Bearers are requested to line up at the entrance to the Church, and when instructed enter the Church, present their Colours, and then take the seats reserved for them.
After the Church Service, the parade will disband and not proceed to Market Square on this occasion.
Earlier, the customary Service of Remembrance will be held at the Walton War Memorial, Whitemill Lane, Walton, commencing at 9:50 am, and individuals and organisations are cordially invited to participate. Persons attending should kindly assemble at the War Memorial by 9:40 am
If you are planning to lay a wreath during the service in Granville Square, it would be most helpful if you could advise the Town Council, 01785 619743 or clerk@stonetowncouncil.gov.uk so that your group/organisation can be noted.
