Stone mayor, Councillor Jonathan Powell, popped along to see how the rehearsals are going for this year’s Stone and district gang show.
Covide scuppered the 2021 gang show – but for 2023 scouts, cubs, beavers and their leaders have come together to put on an unforgettable 4 nights of entertainment ( plus a matinee).
Most of the cast have never performed in front of a live audience before, and the mayor came down to show his support and encourage all involved. The mayor will also be attending one of the live shows, and there were talks about getting him up on stage too!
The mayor met some of the youngest and oldest members of the cast, whilst Harry Meakin is getting involved in his first show, Chris Barlow is staggeringly getting ready for his 25th show! Chris has been in every Stone Gang Show since 1967, when his dad was a scout leader and helped organise the first show.
Twins Harry and George Parks are looking forward to walking in their older brothers’ footsteps (Oliver) who was in the gang show in 2019.
The mayor was shown around the various rehearsals by Gavin Statham (who was in the gang show himself in 1987 and is now a beaver leader) and his scouting Son Theo. Rumour has it that the mayor and his consort Nancy were seen singing along and learning some of the moves.
The mayor and mayoress enthused about how they were looking forward to coming to the full show and encouraged others to come along to not only have an evening of family entertainment but also to support their local children’s biggest fundraiser.
Tickets for the Stone Gang Show are on sale now, and the show will run from Wednesday, the 12th of April, until Saturday, the 15th of April. The Mitchell Arts Centre in Hanley will host this year’s Stone Gang Show, and you can purchase the tickets directly from the online box office.
