Stone teenagers prepare for life-changing adventure in India

Two local teenagers from Stone are preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to India next summer, representing the Midlands with Girlguiding.

Two Stone teenagers, India-Niamh and Ava-May, have been selected to take part in the Midlands international Girlguiding trip to India in July 2026. Both girls, who are 15 years old and Rangers in the Stone division of Girlguiding, are thrilled to have been chosen after a tough selection process earlier this year.

The friends attended a selection weekend in Birmingham in March, competing against other hopefuls from across the Midlands. Their successful applications mean they will join a group travelling to India to experience local culture, volunteer on community projects, and stay at Sangam, one of the five World Centres of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

While in India, India-Niamh and Ava-May will get the chance to roll up their sleeves and make a real difference, working alongside local communities. They’ll also have the opportunity to visit some of India’s most iconic sights, including the Taj Mahal, the vibrant Pink City, the Golden Triangle, and the bustling local markets — even experiencing rickshaw rides as part of soaking in Indian culture.

This incredible opportunity is about more than just travel. It is a journey of growth, learning, and making a positive impact — but it comes with a significant fundraising challenge. Each girl needs to raise £3,100 to fund their place, and they’ve already thrown themselves into the task with real determination.

Their efforts so far include:

• Setting up a JustGiving page
• Washing cars and completing household chores in return for donations
• Organising bake sales
• Planning a fashion show fundraiser at Yarnfield on 25th May

Despite their hard work, India-Niamh and Ava-May are still looking for support from local businesses to help them reach their target.

“We’re trying everything we can, but finding business sponsors has been tricky,” said Tash, India’s mum. “We hope the Stone community might be able to help these girls achieve their dream.”

The upcoming fashion show promises to be a lively afternoon (starts 2:30pm), with all proceeds going towards helping the girls on their journey.
